About Us

Pub Church was started in the summer of 2023 in response to a cry for

help. When it became clear that our local parish church in Paddlesworth

- St Oswald's - needed urgent financial help, a group of us decided to

start a Sunday service with the aim of donating our offerings to its

upkeep and repairs. After a few months, this group turned into a small

community committed to maintaining the soul of our village (the

church) in the heart of our village (the pub).

Today this small community has become pub church. We meet every

fortnight on a Sunday evening in the Cat and Custard Pot pub in

Paddlesworth. That way we get to support our pub as well as St Oswald's.

In fact, our support has now stretched to other local areas of need,

including in our neighbouring town of Hawkinge.

At pub church, we seek to be a safe space for those looking to explore

what it means to have a deep connection with Jesus in the 21 st century.

We have been studying Mark's Gospel in our quest to journey with Jesus

– not just the Jesus who lived 2000 years ago, but the Jesus who lives in

our hearts today. We have so far spent almost two years discussing this

Gospel in a non-religious and exciting way.

Jesus enjoyed having fun with his friends, and he also enjoyed having

meals with strangers, so we try to replicate these two things in our own

community life. We have special events designed purely for fun – such as

Christmas pub quizzes - and we also enjoy having meals together – such

as summer BBQs.

We would love you to join us on our journey with Jesus. Everyone is

welcome. We are an inclusive and non-judgmental community, seeking

to serve our local area in a quiet and authentic way.

Why not come and give pub church a try?
